For the past decade, Noordhoek resident Gavin Thomson has made a name for himself as one of South Africa's most prolific cartoonists.

At a time, producing around 15 comic strips a week, including Treknet (Cape Times, Saturday Star and Independent Newspapers), Ripples (Dockwalk magazine, USA) Koos (Farmer's Weekly) and Brak (Animal Talk) written by Dave Gomersall, as well as the popular daily comic strip, Mama Taxi and Frikkie by the late Deni Brown, which he illustrated from 2005 to 2018.

As well as being a published editorial cartoonist whose work appeared for 10 years in the People's Post and was commended at a national level at the 2013 Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards, he has also illustrated numerous children's story books including the 'And Friends' series written by Roy Harding, Jesus stories for Little Zebra Books and The Bungle in the Jungle by John Bush.

In 2015 Gavin returned to the easel and painting. In December 2016, he had his first solo exhibition, “Starry Nights Over False Bay”, an exhibition of paintings depicting famous artworks mixed with his own cartoons.

Since then he has taken part in various group and solo exhibitions in Cape Town and Gauteng.
